LDL Apheresis Treatment
― Prevention of Atherosclerosis, Dyslipidemia, and Diabetic Complications ―
Overview
LDL apheresis is a blood purification therapy that selectively removes low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C, “bad cholesterol”) from the bloodstream.
It is particularly effective for patients who do not achieve sufficient improvement with statin or other lipid-lowering medications.
The treatment may help slow the progression of atherosclerosis and diabetic complications such as nephropathy, retinopathy, and arteriosclerosis obliterans (ASO).
Treatment Features
- Removes approximately 60–75% of LDL cholesterol in a single session
- Shown to improve endothelial function and inflammatory markers
- Repeated treatments may provide long-term vascular protection
Device Used in Treatment
Jikei University Hospital uses an adsorption-type blood purification device manufactured by Kaneka Medical Corp., Japan.
This device is designed to remove unwanted substances from the blood while maintaining patient safety.
